Adrian Newey to Join Aston Martin as Managing Technical Partner in 2024

Formula One’s legendary designer, Adrian Newey, is set to join Aston Martin as Managing Technical Partner starting March 1, 2024. The 65-year-old, who recently left Red Bull in search of new challenges, will also become a shareholder in the Silverstone-based team.

Newey’s move to Aston Martin comes ahead of the 2025 Formula One season, which will kick off on March 16 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The 2025 season is especially significant as it precedes a major overhaul in engine regulations and a new era for the sport in 2026.

With a remarkable career spanning decades, Newey has designed cars that have won 25 drivers’ and constructors’ championships for teams like Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull. His 2023 Red Bull car was one of the most dominant in F1 history, winning 21 out of 22 races.

Despite interest from rival teams such as Ferrari and McLaren, Newey chose Aston Martin, a team owned by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll. The team currently features two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Stroll’s son, Lance, as its drivers.

Expressing his excitement, Newey said, “I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with.” He added that Aston Martin has all the necessary infrastructure to become a world championship-winning team, and he is eager to contribute to that goal.

Stroll, who has been investing heavily in the team, described Newey as “the best in the world at what he does.” He noted that Newey’s decision to join Aston Martin is a testament to the team’s ambition to fight for world championships. Stroll emphasized that initial conversations with Newey confirmed their mutual interest, adding, “Adrian is a racer and one of the most competitive people I have ever met.”

Newey’s arrival is part of Aston Martin’s broader strategy to elevate the team to the top of Formula One. The team has also brought in other top talents, including former Mercedes engine head Andy Cowell and ex-Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile. From 2026, Aston Martin will begin an exclusive partnership with Honda, Red Bull’s current engine supplier.

With Newey onboard, Aston Martin is sending a clear message: they are serious about competing at the highest level and are building a team capable of winning world championships.
