World number two Carlos Alcaraz is heading into the Asia swing feeling refreshed and motivated, aiming to add the Shanghai Masters title to his recent victory at the China Open. After a challenging North American swing, where he fell short in both Cincinnati and the U.S. Open, Alcaraz has bounced back thanks to his performances in team events like the Davis Cup and Laver Cup.
Alcaraz, who won this year’s French Open and Wimbledon, has credited these team competitions with helping him regain his energy and motivation. He said that playing alongside his Spanish teammates in the Davis Cup, as well as representing Team Europe in the Laver Cup, brought back the joy and focus he needed on the court. “The Davis Cup and Laver Cup helped me get the energy back and feel motivated again,” Alcaraz told reporters.
Since his loss at the U.S. Open, Alcaraz has played a key role in securing Spain’s place in the Davis Cup quarter-finals and led Team Europe to victory in the Laver Cup. He then went on to defeat his rival, Jannik Sinner, in an intense three-hour final at the China Open in Beijing, winning 6-7(6) 6-4 7-6(3).
Despite the tight tennis schedule, which saw him fly to Shanghai immediately after his win in Beijing, Alcaraz remains optimistic. “The tennis schedule is so tight, but we have to get used to it,” he said. He arrived in Shanghai at 4 a.m. and quickly began preparations for his upcoming match against Shang Juncheng.
With his energy restored and motivation high, Alcaraz is eager to make his mark in Shanghai and continue his strong run in the Asia swing. Fans are excited to see if he can carry this momentum and capture another title.
