Jessica Pegula has finally broken through to her first Grand Slam semifinal after seven attempts. She achieved this by defeating world No. 1 Iga Świątek with a score of 6-2, 6-4 at the US Open. After the match, the 30-year-old from Buffalo expressed her relief, saying, “Thank God I finally did it.”

This victory is the biggest of Pegula’s career. She played brilliantly on Arthur Ashe Stadium, beating the top-ranked player in the world. Pegula was thrilled to reach this milestone in her home state of New York.

“I knew I could do it,” said Pegula. “To finally reach a semifinal and do it against the world No. 1 on Ashe is just amazing. I had to go out and show my best tennis.”

In the semifinals, Pegula will face Czech player Karolina Muchova, who is playing her second straight US Open semifinal. Muchova had to take a nine-month break due to a wrist injury but has returned to top form.

“She’s an amazing player, so talented and athletic,” Pegula said of her next opponent. “It’s impressive how she’s come back so strong. I’ll need to play my best tennis against her, but I’ll worry about that tomorrow.”
