Julianne Hough, known for hosting Dancing With the Stars, recently opened up about her sexuality and how she views love. Almost five years after revealing she was “not straight,” Julianne shared more about her journey on the Aug. 27 episode of the Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast.
“Coming out is one of the most vulnerable and empowering things you can do,” Julianne explained. For her, it’s not just about labels like straight, gay, or bi. “I think I’m just learning what love is, and I love people. I don’t know what I’m attracted to, but I choose you,” she said.
The 36-year-old shared that she’s been seeing people for who they truly are, appreciating their hearts and beauty. “I love people,” she continued, “and I don’t know if it’s a sexual attraction or another kind of attraction, but I’m just seeing people. And that was such a beautiful revelation.”
Julianne was married to hockey player Brooks Laich for almost five years before they divorced in 2022. Looking back, she believes that their relationship was exactly what she needed at that time. “What I needed was to reconnect to my 10-year-old self,” she said. She described Brooks as a grounding force who provided stability, which allowed her to feel safe and nurtured.
Despite their romantic split, Julianne sees the positive side of their time together. “We are very important, special people in each other’s lives,” she said. “We shared a really powerful season together, and there’s a mutual respect and love that helped us both grow.”
