Robert Kubica’s Big Win at Spa-Francorchamps

Robert Kubica, the only Polish driver competing in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) this year, achieved a significant victory at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Driving for the Orlen Team AO by TF, Kubica and his teammates won the fourth round of the 2024 ELMS season, which has put them in the lead in the overall championship standings.

This victory marks the first win of the season for Orlen Team AO by TF. Kubica’s team started the race from pole position after being the fastest in Saturday’s qualifying session. Kubica held the lead during his stint, and his teammate Louis Deletraz extended their advantage to 8-9 seconds. The team finished the race with a narrow lead of just 1.1 seconds.

In the same race, the Polish team Inter Europol Competition secured second place, closely trailing Kubica’s team. The IDEC Sport team finished in third.

The 2024 ELMS season consists of six rounds, with races already held in Barcelona, Le Castellet, and Imola. After the recent race at Spa-Francorchamps on August 25, the next rounds will take place at Mugello in Italy on September 29, and the season will conclude at Portimão in Portugal on October 19.

Kubica’s return to the ELMS is notable as he last competed in the series three years ago. In 2021, he raced with the Belgian team WRT, where he, along with Louis Deletraz and Yifei Ye, won the overall championship. The European Le Mans Series features endurance races with drivers competing in LMP class prototypes and GT class sports cars.

In June 2021, Kubica’s team came close to winning the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category, but unfortunately, their car broke down on the final lap, preventing them from finishing the race. Now, back in the ELMS, Kubica is once again showing his skill and determination in endurance racing.
