Thomas Tuchel Appointed as New England Head Coach

Thomas Tuchel has officially been named as the new head coach of the England national football team by the FA. The German manager, known for his success at top European clubs, becomes the third foreign coach to lead the Three Lions, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. Tuchel signed his contract on October 8 and will begin his role on January 1.

Tuchel will be joined by English coach Anthony Barry, who worked with him previously at Chelsea and Bayern Munich. For now, Lee Carsley will continue as interim head coach for the November international matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, before resuming his position as U21 manager.

In his first press conference as England manager, Tuchel acknowledged the unique challenge of being a German coach in charge of England: “I’m sorry that I have a German passport. But fans know my passion for the Premier League and this country. I loved living here. I hope to show them that I’m proud to be the England manager and will give my all to this role.”

Tuchel brings a wealth of experience from his time managing Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich. Most notably, he led Chelsea to victory in the Champions League in 2021. FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealed that Tuchel was selected from a pool of around 10 candidates, including English coaches, to replace Gareth Southgate. Bullingham expressed confidence in Tuchel, saying, “We are really happy with Thomas, and he gives us the best chance of winning the next World Cup.”

Meet Anthony Barry, England’s New Assistant Coach

Anthony Barry, a highly regarded English coach, will assist Tuchel in his new role. Barry first worked with Tuchel at Chelsea in 2021, where he made a significant impact as part of the coaching team. Known for his expertise in analysis and set-pieces, Barry has also held roles with the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, and Portugal national teams.

Barry shared his excitement about joining the England setup: “For any Englishman in football, working with the national team is the pinnacle. I didn’t hesitate when Thomas asked me to join him again. This squad is very talented, and I look forward to contributing to this exciting project.”

With Tuchel and Barry at the helm, England fans can look forward to a fresh chapter as the team prepares for the challenges ahead.
