The Rise of Hybrid Dominance: A Look at November’s Car Sales in Poland

Toyota and Skoda Take Charge

In November, the Polish car market was dominated by Toyota and Skoda, which together claimed nearly a third of total sales. Toyota alone accounted for an impressive 18.75% market share, with five of its models securing spots in the top 10. Skoda followed, standing strong with its well-received designs and practical options.

Volkswagen came in third, trailing behind Skoda but still benefiting from its shared group DNA. While the top players thrived, the absence of Chinese brands in the top 10 indicates that these manufacturers still have ground to cover to gain traction in Poland.

Sales Driven by Fear of Future Price Hikes

The final quarter of the year traditionally sees heightened activity due to end-of-year sales, but this November, fears of impending price increases drove an even greater surge. Upcoming CO2 regulations set for January 2025 have prompted buyers to secure purchases before potential cost hikes take effect. These concerns may result in a cooling off of the market come January.

Top Models: Toyota’s Undisputed Lead

Toyota’s dominance extended to its models, with five spots in the top 10. The Corolla, a perennial favorite, led the list with over 25,000 registrations, followed by other hits like the Yaris Cross and RAV4. Practicality, fuel efficiency, and brand reputation continue to give Toyota a significant edge in Poland.

Electric and Chinese Cars: Small But Growing Presence

Electric vehicles represented just 2.5% of new car registrations in November, indicating that despite heavy investment, the shift to EVs remains slow. Meanwhile, Chinese brands achieved a modest 3.3% market share, showing potential for future growth but reflecting their early stages in Poland.

Premium brands, traditionally strong players, also saw a dip in November, with their market share dropping to 20.7%, the weakest performance for the segment this year.

A Strong Market—For Now

With 54,963 passenger and commercial vehicles registered in November, the market grew by 16.54% year-on-year. This includes a notable 6.26% increase in commercial vehicle registrations compared to October. While November’s numbers look promising, analysts predict that the market might cool off early in 2025 as fears of price hikes subside.

For now, Toyota and Skoda have plenty of reasons to celebrate as they solidify their positions at the top of Poland’s car market.
