On Wednesday morning, a tragic shooting occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. According to Reuters, citing CNN, four people have been confirmed dead and at least thirty others have been injured. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office reported that one person has been detained in connection with the incident.

The sheriff’s office stated that around 10:20 AM, multiple law enforcement agencies, along with fire and emergency medical personnel, were dispatched to the school in response to the shooting. The situation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing their investigation.

CNN reported that one of the injured individuals was airlifted by helicopter, which landed on the school grounds. The local hospital is currently treating patients with gunshot wounds, according to CNN sources. The FBI is also involved in the response efforts.

Witnesses have shared their experiences of the chaotic scene. Seventeen-year-old Sergio Caldera was in a chemistry class when he first heard the gunshots. He recounted that another teacher burst into the classroom, shouting for everyone to lock the doors because there was an active shooter.

As students and teachers huddled in the classroom, someone pounded on the door and repeatedly yelled for them to open it. When the banging stopped, Caldera heard more gunshots and screams. Eventually, his class was able to evacuate to the school’s football field.

The situation remains under investigation, and the community is deeply affected by this devastating event.
